By selecting artists based on portfolio and know-how instead of pedigree, we hope to create a sustainable gallery alternative. And because our diverse artist community is growing every day, we can ensure that properties and designers receive new, fresh concepts with every pitch. Instead of relying on a single in-house studio, we bring the creative muscle and efficiency of more than 3,000 artists worldwide.
Indiewalls was founded in 2011 with the goal of utilizing technology to create new opportunities for artists. Our original focus was to sell artwork to the general public by installing art in heavily trafficked areas with scannable QR codes. Around the same time, visual platforms like Instagram began to take off, exposing businesses and consumers to the world of fine art on a daily basis. This led to a growing frequency of artwork being showcased as a focal point in commercial spaces.
In 2013, we pivoted to focus exclusively on the commercial industry - interior designers, hotel brands, tech companies - helping project teams discover, purchase, and commission artworks from independent artists. Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to develop, curate, and produce murals, sculptures, 2D works, custom installations, and more for some of the leading brands and properties in the world. Our diverse team includes curators, artists, project managers, and production specialists united around the goal of creating purposeful artwork experiences and supporting artists in the process. As we grow, we keep in mind the three foundations to which we owe our success: dedication to our artist community, speed and efficiency, and top-notch customer service.
Complimenting our full-time staff of dedicated curators, we have a 6,600 SF production facility, Indieworks, in Brooklyn where we are able to handle artwork production, printing, and framing. This guarantees the highest level of quality control and consistency, with pricing well below retail frame shops. We are able to print on everything from 54” vinyl wall covering, to 2D objects like circuit boards, to fine art cotton rag. All our frames are fitted by hand and each order includes custom-built crates, ensuring that no job - or artwork - is too big for our team.
